About the Dinosaurs

On Sunday, 4 May 2014 I went to Scool at Parkway Parade. They had been advertising 50% off some animal figurines, and I wanted in on that action because the figurines in the poster looked like the animal figurines I’d recently seen in The Better Toy Store, and I like animal figurines.

So I went to the store and bought a bunch of animals for My English School, the enrichment center I work for in Singapore. I also bought myself a triceratops and a tyrannosaurus rex (SGD 8.45 and SGD 24.95).

They are awesome, are they not?

About the Battles

The carnivore/herbivore pair reminded me of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring segment in Fantasia in which a t-rex fights a stegosaurus.

In Fantasia, the t-rex wins. But sometimes the herbivore wins. He wouldn’t have all that armor and weaponry if, from an evolutionary standpoint, it didn’t work some of the time.

So I had this idea: let the two dinosaurs represent different things, and write labels for them on a sketchpad. Their battles would symbolize our struggles, big and small, and would help us keep a sense of humor and perspective. The sketchbook would then be an archive of our battles.

Is the triceratops an underdog? Maybe. I guess it depends on the battle. Do I root for the herbivore? Obviously, since sometimes I’m the carnivore, not necessarily…

About the Website

I decided that the sketchpad didn’t really give enough context. So I decided to create a blog exhibiting photos of the battles and telling the stories they represent. And so, pyb.spjg.com was born…

I edited the CSS of the WordPress 2013 theme and, using my modest PhotoShop skills, modified the header image. I like WordPress and I like Photoshop and HTML and CSS. Javascript (moving stuff) not so much.
